Appalachia Digital Accelerator
Generation West Virginia
Generation West Virginia’s Broadband Program aims to bridge the digital divide in the state by addressing barriers to broadband access through digital equity initiatives and infrastructure support. As part of the Appalachia Digital Accelerator, GWV has partnered with 18 counties to develop Digital Equity Plans that are tailored to improve digital access, affordability, and skills based on each community’s unique needs.

People on the ground, in the community, are the ones who most keenly feel and understand the barriers, and often, have the best ideas on how to address them. This project gives county partners the tools they need to find funds for expanding digital inclusion efforts on the local level.
Generation West Virginia has developed digital equity plans covering 18 counties across the state. Created through collaboration with community members, these plans are designed to improve digital access, affordability, and skills tailored to each community’s needs. By equipping local stakeholders with essential resources and tools, they will help address broadband gaps and enhance digital literacy in Barbour, Boone, Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Fayette, Gilmer, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mingo, Nicholas, Roane, Summers, Webster, Wetzel, Wirt, and Wyoming.

About Generation West Virginia
Generation West Virginia is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to equipping young West Virginians with essential skills and career opportunities to help them thrive in the Mountain State. This mission is especially vital in West Virginia, where workforce participation ranks second-lowest in the nation and the poverty rate among young adults is one of the highest.
Generation West Virginia drives meaningful impact through four key programs: the Career Connector, the Fellowship Program, the NewForce Tech-Training Program, and the Broadband Program.
A project in partnership with the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), which contributed $6.3 million (80% of the total project cost).
