I’m excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Jeanine Abrams McLean and Chris Worman to Connect Humanity’s board. Both Jeanine and Chris are already central figures in the formation of Connect Humanity, and now, they are set to play an instrumental role in shaping our future as they step up to the board to drive our efforts to advance digital equity.

Dr. Jeanine Abrams McLean has been on this journey with us since 2020 when she participated in conversations among a group of tech, philanthropy, and civil society leaders about the needs the pandemic had exposed. Connect Humanity emerged from these discussions, and Jeanine joined us as a founding advisor.

Jeanine is the President of Fair Count, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to ensuring every person in Georgia and the US is accurately counted in the census while building pathways to continued civic engagement, including voting and redistricting. This includes efforts to bridge the digital divide and use technology to drive democratic participation within underrepresented and historically marginalized communities.

She also had an accomplished career as an evolutionary biologist, including work at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where she applied her expertise in computational biology and population research to advance public health initiatives. Her 20+ years of expertise in community organizing and harnessing the power of technology to empower communities will be invaluable to our board.

Chris Worman is not only a co-founder of Connect Humanity but also served as Chief Partnership and Strategy Officer. Chris recently wrote about why he is transitioning to a board role, explaining that while his decision was largely to find balance as a new father, he also recognized that Connect Humanity’s strategic direction is towards investments and technical assistance, rather than civil society engagement, his chief area of expertise. For 25+ years, Chris has done incredible work at the intersection of civil society and technology in the US, Romania, and internationally. In the coming weeks, he’ll share more about where his passion for civic tech takes him next, but in the meantime, I’m thrilled to be able to announce that Connect Humanity will continue to benefit from his creativity, energy, and dedication to fighting for digital equity.

Both Jeanine and Chris bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a shared commitment to equity and harnessing digital technology for good. Their leadership will be crucial as we continue to build an organization that supports communities to shape the digital future they want.
