Request for Proposals

Broadband as a Service for the Red Bird Mission campus

Red Bird Mission is seeking a qualified internet service provider to build and operate a redundant fiber connection to its campus in Beverly, Kentucky, under a seven-year service agreement funded in part by the Appalachian Regional Commission.

About the project

Red Bird Mission has served the communities where Bell, Clay, and Leslie Counties meet since 1921. Its campus includes a K-12 school, medical and dental clinics, staff housing, a community store, and adult education classrooms.

Today the campus depends on a single line through remote national forest land, and outages can last for days.

The RFP seeks a provider to build, own, and operate two physically diverse fiber routes to the campus, and to deliver managed, monitored internet service to two points on campus under a seven-year Broadband as a Service agreement. Reliability comes first: the campus must stay online if one route is cut, with fast restoration and verifiable service levels. Service will start at 1 Gbps symmetrical and must be able to scale to 10 Gbps.
